We'll still have to wait for the spring to get iPlayer in the US, but the service is launching this week in the UK. The BBC announced the iPlayer for the iPad a few months back, saying
that the plan was to start with the iPad and then work towards other
devices from there.
Seemingly out of nowhere, the BBC has just announced that the iPad app will be coming this week as well as an unannounced Android app. Not every Android device will work with the BBC iPlayer app - you'll need version 2.2 of the operating system and Flash 10.1 installed on your device to access the service. You'll be able to browse shows when operating on 3G, but you'll need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to watch anything. The iPad app, along with a subscription plan, is expected to hit the US in June and there's no reason to expect any different from the Android app. If this keeps up, we'll have a full mobile device rollout once the iPlayer makes it to America. |
