Apple has to be happy with this statistic. Among services that provide internet video on demand (iVOD) iTunes ranks number one, with a 64.5 percent share of the market in 2010. That's a really solid chunk, but it's not all good news for Apple.
That 64.5 percent share is actually a big step down for the company which had a 74.4 share of 2009's market. That ten percent was picked up by Microsoft and Sony, who have found some success in video rentals on their videogame systems. Vudu and Amazon aren't a big threat yet, but they're on the rise. With Walmart behind it, Vudu could easily be a huge threat in the marketplace. These statistics do not include online streaming services that offer subscription models like Hulu and Netflix. |
