iTunes is Number One in Internet Video on Demand

Apple has to be happy with this statistic.  Among services that provide internet video on demand (iVOD) iTunes ranks number one, with a 64.5 percent share of the market in 2010.  That's a really solid chunk, but it's not all good news for Apple.

That 64.5 percent share is actually a big step down for the company which had a 74.4 share of 2009's market.  That ten percent was picked up by Microsoft and Sony, who have found some success in video rentals on their videogame systems.

Vudu and Amazon aren't a big threat yet, but they're on the rise.  With Walmart behind it, Vudu could easily be a huge threat in the marketplace.

These statistics do not include online streaming services that offer subscription models like Hulu and Netflix.
