It's a good weekend to stay home and get comfortable with one of this week's excellent Blu-ray releases.  There's no reason to go out in the cold to see this week's dismal releases.

The Mechanic

You've probably seen a few Jason Statham movies.  This is like those. 'The Mechanic' doesn't bring anything new to the table, but if all you're after is some fast paced action and intense line deliveries you'll be happy with it.  If you're looking for more, 'The Mechanic' isn't going to do it for you.

The Rite

I really wanted to like 'The Rite,' since there's something wonderful about the way Anthony Hopkins delivers a calm but threatening line.  The previews tag the film as his best work since 'Silence of the Lambs,' but to say that is to discount everything he's done between the two films.  'The Rite' is exactly what you'd expect from the trailers.  It's like the 'Exorcist,' but without all the good.

Also Coming Out This Week:

Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster (limited)

Kaboom (limited)

When We Leave (limited)

Scream of the Banshee (limited)
