At this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Gorilla Glass was all over the place.  It was in Sony's press conference - they boasted their strong new TVs - and advertized on banners in the convention center.  But Corning isn't the only company with strong new glass to show off.

Asashi is Japan's leading glass manufacturer and they've got big plans.  With their new Dragontail glass, they hope to supply 30 percent of the consumer electronics market by the year 2012.  It's a lofty goal, but they're confident.

Dragontail glass is six times stronger than the glass typically used in electronics which has two huge benefits.  The first is, of course, that devices can be made much sturdier.  With stronger glass, there's less of a chance that you'll break your TV by flinging a Wii remote at it.

The other big benefit is that companies are able to use less glass to protect the devices.  Thinner glass means thinner phones, tablets and TVs in the years to come.
