Philips is an odd company which has creations that range from the cheap entry-level components found at Walmart to high-end controllers for home automation systems.  Their newest Blu-ray player trends towards the latter.

At first, the BDP7580 doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary.  It's a Blu-ray player that can handle 3D discs and connect to streaming services like Netflix and Pandora.  When the word 'wireless' comes up, it almost bypasses the brain, since wireless internet is so common on Blu-ray players.

But the exciting part of the BDP7580 isn't Wi-Fi, it's wireless HDMI.  It's the first in the world to offer a wireless HD solution built into the player, and looks to be the only one coming in the near future.

By going wireless you're not only able to cut down on the clutter behind your TV, but have a bit more freedom in placement as well.  Philips hasn't specified what kind of range the wireless HDMI has, but even a few feet would be nice to have.

You'll be able to pick up the Philips BDP7580 in April at a suggested $499.
