We've been anticipating the release of the Diamond HC9000 3D projector since it was first announced a few months back, and Mitsubishi says the time is almost here.

The HC9000 projector, which uses an SXRD optical engine to provide a 1080p resolution and a 120,000:1 full on/full off contrast ratio.  It can handle screens of up to 100 inches and, of course, it's fully compatible with current 3D formats.

We've heard this is the "Year of 3D,'" says Mitsubishi's product manager Wayne Kozuki.  " But Mitsubishi has been selling 3D-ready TVs since 2007, so it’s the home entertainment industry that is finally catching up to us."

Mitsubishi says that the HC9000's lens is just as important as the projector itself.  It's made of low-dispersion glass in a six piece, 17 cluster structure.  The lens provides an incredibly clear picture and bright colors.

There's no price yet on the HC9000, but the release is set for the first quarter of 2011.
