Not a single movie is opening wide on New Year's eve, but that's not much of a surprise on a day that's celebrated by partying all night.  Still, there are a few movies you might want to see.  And hey, you can get a head start on your New Year's resolution to see movies outside of the normal Hollywood blockbusters.

The Way Back (limited)

Though it's an independent film, it sure doesn't seem like it.  'The Way Back' is full of adventure, drama, emotion and excitement.  The story is about soldiers escaping a Siberian gulag in the 1940s and stars Ed Harris and Colin Farrell.  'The Way Back' is directed by Peter Weir, who helmed 'Master and Commander' back in 2003.

Another Year (limited)

Director Mike Leigh has been highly praised not only for his past work, but for 'Another Year,' a dramatic piece about an older happily married couple and their friends who aren't quite as fortunate.  It stars Jim Broadbent, Lesley Manville and Ruth Sheen and have gained much critical acclaim.
