It may seem like bad news at first glance, but the cut in production of LCD panels is actually a positive sign for the company – and the industry as a whole.
LCD televisions are still selling well, but that's in part due to prices that keep falling lower and lower. LCD panels used to make televisions, computer monitors, phones and laptops aren't selling quite as well. Demand for the panels has gone down which drives the price down. Going by the good old law of supply and demand, a decrease in supply should result in an increased demand, spurring the prices back up to where they need to be for LCD makers to stay profitable. "Such an effort," says analyst Lee Seung-woo, "will help advance an industry rebound, which is expected sometime in the first half of next year." |
