While Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and the rest are all focused on 3D sets that use active shutter technology, Vizio is going to be launching a 65 inch TV that utilizes the passive technology found in theaters.

It came as a surprise when Vizio added the XVT3D650SVto its website, since no official announcement has come forth.  It's a 65 inch edge-lit LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate and built-in Wi-Fi for Vizio Internet Apps, but what's most interesting is the use of passive technology in its 3D.

Vizio calls the tech Theater 3D, and specifically differentiates it from Full HD 3D on the spec sheet.  Though nothing's certain, it sounds like Vizio's huge 3D television won't be giving us high definition 3D.

The set is labeled as "coming soon" and has a price of $3,699.

Most of the polarized tv's I have seen or heard of, will put out an image of
720p per eye, which at the larger size, may be a detriment, but sports bars and
the like would greatly benefit from it.

The refresh rate on this is not the
same as Vizio's other 3D models, so have some concern about motion problems,
however they are claiming strong brightness and a high extinction rate (ie lower
or no ghosting)
