Toshiba's BDX2500 is one of the more budget-friendly Blu-ray players in Toshiba's BDX series, featuring internet streaming content, support for all sorts of media files, and of course, full HD 1080p Blu-ray content. The BDX2500 from Toshiba offers a built-in Ethernet port for connection to a home network, but for a $50 upgrade, owners can purchase an optional Wireless LAN adapter which makes the system WiFi ready.  Wireless is especially handy for those who have their router in another room.

One connected to the Internet, the BDX2500 is preloaded with a few video streaming services, including Vudu (whose HDX rentals are the closest competitor to Blu-ray), Netflix, Pandora, and Blockbuster On Demand.  Firmware updates will also be available over the net.  The BDX2500 is a Profile 2.0 player, but to access BD-Live content, an optional SD card with a minimum of 1 gigabyte of storage must be purchased.

Toshiba's BDX2500 also plays back MP3 and WMA audio files, as well as JPEG pictures from writeable DVD / CD media or via the SD card slot or the USB port.  It also plays back the AVCHD high definition video camera format which can record MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 files on a DVD.

Like all Blu-ray players, Toshiba 's Region 1 locked BDX2500 outputs full HD 1080p at 60 or 24 frames per second via it's HDMI output, and also offers DVD up scaling up to 1080p as well as an automatic resolution setting which ensures the player will connect with any HDMI equipped television at the proper resolution.

The Toshiba BDX2500 can bitstream out or internally decode Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio for output over HDMI or, in a nice feature on a lower priced model, using the 7.1 channel RCA analog audio outs (great for those who want uncompressed or lossless audio, but don't want to swap out a pre-HDMI receiver).

The BDX2500 Blu-ray player is available now at around $130 from most local and online retailers.  For $50 more, Toshiba offers the BDX2700 which includes built-in WiFi.
