With as much a focus on internet connectivity options as on video and audio performance, Sharp's slimline series BD-HP90U Blu-ray Player is loaded with extras and is ready for 3D (whenever the studios, you know, release enough content to warrant swapping out all your expensive gear).  It is also essentially a BD-HP90U, except the color is a glossy black, costs about $50 more, and includes a stand for vertical or horizontal operation.

The BD-HP90U from Sharp offers both a built in wired (LAN) and WiFi (B/G/N 802.11) capabilities for connection to a home network, which is becoming more and more common with just about every home electronics products.  Wireless is especially handy for those who have their router in another room.

One connected to the Internet, the BD-HP90U is ready to access BD-Live features on Blu-rays as well as a plethora of audio and video streaming services, including Vudu (whose HDX rentals are the closest competitor to Blu-ray), Netflix, and Pandora.  Firmware updates will also be available over the net, and there is even an Auto Software Update function.

Sharp's BD-HP90U also plays back MP3 audio files, Divx HD video file, and JPEG pictures from a networked PC, USB-connected devices, or writeable DVD / CD media.  It also features AQUOS LINK and AQUOS PURE MODE.  When connected to a Sharp AQUOS LCD television, LINK will allow seamless interoperability between the TV and BD-HP90U, and PURE MODE ensures the television isn't over-scanning, and is presenting full 1080p video content in "dot by dot mode."

The big gun here in Sharp's new player is Blu-ray 3D playback at full HD 3D resolution.  That means, with the combination of the appropriate display, Blu-ray 3D source material will play at a glorious 1080p-per-eye resolution, 24 to 60 fps.  The BD-HP90U also plays back traditional Blu-rays and well as your old standard definition DVDs.  VHS owners…like most days, you're S.O.L.

The Sharp BD-HP90U decodes Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio and there is a single optical digital outputs, but no 7.1 channel analog audio outs.  Filed under nifty features, the BD-HP90U can be operated vertically, either with an included stand on a shelf, or with the additional purchase of a wall mount (VESA Mount 75mm) so it can sit right next to your TV.

The BD-HP90U Blu-ray 3D player is available now at around $370 from most local and online retailers.
