One of the biggest complaints people have about Netflix is that streaming movies don't take advantage of HDTVs and home theaters, but the new update to the service should answer that.   That's right, Netflix is finally upping the quality.

The first to get the boost are owners of Sony's PlayStation 3 , who have had to use a Blu-ray disc to stream Netflix movies up until now.  Not only will PS3 owners get first access to Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound and 1080i streaming quality, but they'll be able to ditch the disc too.

Netflix says that other devices will be supported in the near future, but doesn't give an exact date.  There's also no word at the moment regarding whether or not all Netflix devices will be getting the same slick user interface update as the PS3's.

If you're a PlayStation 3 owner you'll be able to try out the new functionality when it launches on October 18th.
