Panasonic Finally Adds Netflix to Viera Cast

Well it's about time.  Now that every other company, game console and even some cell phones have Netflix capabilities baked right in, Panasonic has decided it's time to add Netflix to the Viera Cast lineup.

"Panasonic is constantly looking to provide the best possible entertainment experience for our customers," says VP Merwan Mereby.  " The features now available on VIERA CAST provide consumers with access to a wide range of the leading entertainment and interactive sites."

The downside is that only Viera Cast enabled Blu-ray players and TVs made in 2010 or later will have access to the service – your old gear won't update.  You'll need a Netflix subscription to use it, of course, as well as an internet connection.

Panasonic's VT20, VT25, G20, and G25 series televisions are now able to jump on Netflix, as well as the BDT100, BDT300, BDT350, BD65, BD75 and BD70V Blu-ray players.  The B500 portable Blu-ray player gets the update as well.

No Netflix in Canada.

Please be advised our 2010 televisions and Blu-Ray
Players that support the VIERA Cast feature in Canada are not, and will not be,
compatible with Netflix as Netflix Canada has chosen a newer software protocol
in Canada which isn't supported by our current product line up.

Thank
you.

Sincerely,
Viera Concierge Support Team
Panasonic Canada Inc.

That's not an acceptable response. When will Panasonic be providing the
necessary update to permit Netflix streaming on Canadian sets? Samsung has had
no problem doing it. Is it just that Panasonic doesn't care about its Canadian
customers?

I just got the Panasonic' BDT350,Blu-ray player a great unit!

Is Panasonic
going to make the necessary software upgrade to permit Netflix streaming on
Canadian units!

I am very surprise because it is not like Panasonic to let down
their customers.
I am sure that their great support will continue!

I bought a Panasonic blue-ray and plasma TV thinking that I could have internet
access. What was I thinking buying such a great TV and having a hell of a time
accessing the net. Not big into spending a lot on their wifi dongle I bought a
wifi bridge for $ 30.00 not a $100.00 for their product. Netflix access is not
available in Canada in the Edmonton Alberta area but only in the US. What
gives??
So buyer be aware, buy a samsung blue ray unit if you like the plasma
TV or don't buy Panasonic at all. I can access Netflix on everything else in the
house but not on my Panasonic equipment.
netviera  - netflix??   |2011-01-15 11:11:53
I spoke with a Netflix rep and they claim that its not their issue, but
Panasonic's issue. When I called Pany, they claimed it was a Netflix issue and a
softwware imcompatability issue. I have always been a supporter of Pany plasma's
etc, but I was dissapointed to learn that Netflix was not available on there
newer Viera series. You mean to tell me with today's technology that neither
party can make this work?? And if thats not enough, Rogers and Bell are data
packet inspecting and if they see an increase in streaming, i.e., Netflix
subscribers etc., they are bandwidth limiting to reduce usage and thereby
affecting quality. Nice to see that the CRTC has a few of the Telco big wigs in
their back pocket, much like the pork barrel politics in the U.S. It's time for
us in Canada for take a stand and stop having the screws put to us and being
charged unreal cell phone, DTH, cable, and internet rates. Time to cut the wire
from Bell, Shaw and Rogers, and go back to farmer vision in highly ATSC
populated areas and receive T.V for free. Not to mention its way better quality
with less compression. Also, make the M
move to mobile providers like
WindMobile for more competitive and in line cell phone rates!

What a HUGE marketing ploy. The reps in the stores don't tell you that you can't
access Netflix on these sets.
I spent $1750 for a G25 based on the fact that I
would have Netflix and boy did I get screwed.
Thanks Panasonic Canada!

I'm very disappointed that Viera Cast does not support Netflix in Canada. I was
excited to see it on all the adds and then find it's not available in Canada.
What's the problem? False advertising.
screwed canadian   |2011-04-20 14:42:42
I purchased a Panasonic blue ray player with the anticipation of being able to
watch Netflix (which |I subscribe too) but can't because I live in Canada. I
really think that Panasonic has mis treated their customers north of the 49th
Rocco Arbitrio  - DISAPPOINTED Canadian customers   |2011-05-10 17:59:10
Extremely disappointed with new G25 TV, as it's incapable of streaming Netflix
in Canada, through it's Viera Cast platform. Panasonic DISAPPOINTED ME AS A
CUSTOMER!! I researched this product on CNET etc and they all stated Netflix is
available. THEY FAIL TO SAY NOT IN CANADA

I hope to return this set and pick
up a SAMSUNG CAPABLE OF STREAMING NETFLIX IN CANADA.
my first and last Panasonic  - what are we canadians for Panasonic   |2011-05-26 10:17:20
I'm more than disapointed at panasonic, I'm like most of you,I read extensively
on the G20 and the BD65 before buying and netflix was a big part of my decision.
Is it so complicated for panasonic to update their products??????
yogi  - Luv Panasonic but....   |2011-07-17 08:44:55
Plasma TV with blu-ray home theatre is pretty awesome... except they don't have
Netflix access in Canada... wtf!!! I should have bought a Samsung, what a waste
of $$$ Anyone thinking of purchasing a panasonic for netflix should just NOT,
unless you want to be dissappointed with connectivity and customer service.
Steve  - Canadian customers not enough important - No Netfl   |2011-11-16 11:48:50
I have tried many times to update the VieraCast Marketplace on my VT20 to add
that promised Netflix app before finding this discussion where we can read
Canada is sadly excluded from the Netflix service. Hopefully, I have a PS3 to
get Netflix but not like everyone screwed with a TV alone with few low quality
apps. Btw, that TV was also promoted to get a future update enabling the 2D to
3D conversion but that was also removed.
After spending 2300$ for this TV, I
swear I'll never buy anything from Panasonic again.
Ced  - Who's to blame...   |2011-11-22 12:02:19
I called Netflix Canada (on a Sunday!!), and the lovely lady told me that
Panasonic had refused their offer for enabling netflix (in different wording).
Could be a $ issue, or contract, or what not... Netflix Canada is obviously into
it, but not Panasonic... I purchased this tv to have netflix without having a
ps3 or wii or what not... The TV itself is good, but for the same price range, I
could have gotten something slightly better from a different manufacturer...
I'll know better next time, and suggest to look elsewhere if you're considering
Panasonic.

I bought the wireless adapter to get netflix on my through my Panasonic Blue Ray
machine before reading this thread. Once I got the internet connection I learned
Netflix isn't available on my Panasonic Blue Ray machine in Canada. It's hard to
understand how a global company like Panasonic can rationalize limiting this
basic movie service to Canadians. I feel ripped off.
Robert  - Panasonic really disappoints   |2013-01-24 04:02:52
I finally got networking going on my VT25, upgraded to the latest firmware, and
there's no Netflix application? This is a TELEVISION, and Viera Cast only
offers a bunch of useless games and mostly terrible applications? What is the
deal with that? Is Panasonic serious?

This was an expensive TV that was
supposed to have extended offerings.

I'm very disappointed with Panasonic. If
this is how they will continue to operate (and to support their customers), the
only thing they'll be getting from me is negative reviews and word of mouth
wherever I can.
Joe   |2013-02-04 07:38:00
I think that Panasonic will fix this problem hopefully sunner rather than later
Bob   |2013-03-08 21:45:27
Panasonic sucks, I`ve been told also that Netflix will work in Canada on my Pana
TV and it never did, I bought a Pana Bluray from the US and it works with
Netflix, even being in canada. Chooooooooo for Pana
Ian   |2013-03-22 17:12:40
It is inaccpetable that G25 does not stream Netflix straight from the
web.

Panasonic may be out of his mind. Or, most probably, this 'gift' to
canadians comes as a result of Bell and Rogers pressure on our government
officials.
