The XTR-50 from Definitive Technology is an incredibly thin speaker designed to mount on the wall next to, or under your television.  It's just 1.5 inches deep and incredibly slick looking.

Definitive's XTR-50 uses the company's own XTDD aluminum dome tweeter, which allows for a much more compact design.  Additionally, XTDD drivers are coupled to aluminum dome bass radiators – that means a deeper bass response, something thin speakers tend to be weak on.

The cabinet is made of aircraft-grade aluminum, rather than wood or plastic like you'd find more commonly.  There are ribs and channels built in to stiffen the cabinet which helps to eliminate resonance.

The XTR-50 doesn't get too deep into the bass range, offering an on-wall frequency response of 92Hz to 30kHz, but it's certainly a few steps over traditional TV speakers and one of the best looking options available. The Mythos XTR-50 is shipping now for $699.  More XTR speakers are expected to launch later this year.
