In almost every case, you're losing out by picking up a home theater in-a-box.  They're typically not as good as similarly priced systems made of separate components and all too frequently they use proprietary connectors that make upgrading impossible.  That's not the case when it comes to Onkyo's new HT-S9300THX.

It all starts with the receiver, which sports four 3D ready HDMI 1.4 inputs.  It includes supports for Dolby and DTS lossless audio as well as the height processing that comes with Dolby ProLogic IIz.  It's even got a few features from Onkyo, THX, and Audyssey brought in to enhance your sound.

In addition to the four HDMI inputs on the back, the HT-S9300THX sports connections for component and composite cables.  Anything that comes in at less than a 1080p resolution will be scaled on up courtesy of a Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor.

You'll also get two speakers for your left and right channels, one for your center channel and four for surrounds.  That's right, it's a 7.1 channel home theater system.   It's also got a surprisingly massive 12 inch subwoofer. You can pick up the HT-S9300THX for $1,099 when it launches this July.
