Despite vocal critics and some very strong downsides to the new tech, 3D components have been selling well.   According to the NPD, which tracks retail sales, 3D products have accounted for $55 million in revenue in the last three months.

Without more information, it's really hard to tell just what that number means.  After all, most of the big manufacturers have incorporated 3D technology into their newest TVs and Blu-ray players, which are still the top-of-the line when it comes to 2D.  That means that people who are buying 3D capable televisions might not be using the 3D at all.

The NPD also conducted a study regarding 3D that revealed some counter-intuitive results.  Of the consumers polled, only ten percent were worried about looking silly in their 3D glasses.  The biggest concern was that television sets don't come with enough glasses.
