It's always a shame to see products pushed back, and the Boxee Box in particular. The late release means we won't be able to get our mitts on it for another few months, and for the company it means potential lost profit.
But the delay could also be good. The official Boxee blog says that the device just won't be ready for a release until later this year due to high performance standards. "The goal is to play HD videos from the web or a local network in 1080p and use hardware acceleration whenever possible," writes Boxee's Avner Ronen, "and to provide a TV browser experience that can handle almost everything you throw at it, including Flash 10.1." He also said that the Boxee Box will meet or exceed the performance of Boxee software running on a PC. The Box is currently set for a November release at an expected price of under $200. |
