There's something that's just a bit creepy about a speaker that's referred to by female pronouns.  When the folks at Wilson Audio talk about the Sophia Series 3, they don't say "it," they say "she."   The latest upgrade to the Sophia brings a completely new architecture into the mix.  There's a new look, thicker panels, a new bracing strategy and an all new material for the mid/tweeter baffle.

A revised crossover has been thrown into the mix as well. In the Sophia Series 3, there's an improvement in the amount of crossover jitter, which makes the sound clearer.  So much clearer, in fact, that David Wilson was able to hear flaws he couldn't before, which let him get in and fix those as well.

The  mid-range driver is now a simplified version of that found in the Alexandria X-2 Series 2, while the woofer remains similar, but features a magnet double the size of the old one. The tweeter in the Series 3 is sourced from the MAXX Series 3, but with a few changes.

The Sophia Series 3 ships this June at a price of $16,700.

All that money and they use off the shelf drivers for their speakers? ;)

They do NOT use "off the shelf" drivers. Geez, what forum idiot told you
to say that? They use a Focal tweeter that they heavily modify (I've been to the
factory in Provo, I've seen it), the midrange is their own design, made by a
somewhat mysterious "new driver manufacturer", and the woofer is a
heavily modified unit as well. Many of the world's great speakers use other
manufacturer's drivers. To suggest that that makes their speakers somehow less
than is about as logical as saying a Yugo could be as high performance as an
Aston Martin because they use the same brand spark plugs. You're focusing on one
piece of the equation. Don't be the cliche.

Getting really defensive about wilson, I like how you say "modified"
when that is all the highend does now days. They take a stock driver from seas
or another company, add a sticker, and say it has been "heavily
modified". ;)

I don't care what they use if I like what they can do sonically. If you don't
think they're worth it don't buy them!!! Is this what they call trolling?!!!
