LCD TV's Defy the Consumer Electronics Slump

The recession hit people hard.  Even those that kept their jobs had to deal with their investments, their 401k funds and the other consequences of an economic downturn.  And when you're not sure about the financial future, it's time to stop spending money on things that aren't, in the long run, all that important.

So consumer electronics spending took a dive.  Sales went down all over the place, but two categories – LCD Televisions and PCs – defied the trend and outperformed expectations.  Kurt Scherf, VP and principal analyst at Parks Associates says manufacturers should be praised for their success, and earn more by using what they've already got.

"Industries can develop new revenue streams by building off of these devices," said Scherf.  3-D programming is one such possibility.  Content and programming for connected TVs is another.
