What sounded like an exciting new breakthrough in not only television, but pricing as well, ended up being nothing. At least so far. The StreamTV sets showed up on Amazon a while back with a release date of Friday May 7, 2010. It’s the week after now, and there’s still nothing listed as available.
So just what was StreamTV supposed to be, anyway? Well, if you’re a fan of two dimensional television, there was, and still is, a 55 inch set listed with full online capabilities, a built in Blu-ray player, and even a 500GB hard drive. The price is set at a mere $2,299. If 3-D is your thing, the 42 inch StreamTV is 3-D capable and has a price of $5,999. If that seems like a lot initially, take into account that it sports glasses-free 3-D and an integrated “Super Blu-ray Player,” which almost certainly means it can handle 3-D Blu-rays. But the date has come and gone and we’re left with nothing. It’s looking, sadly, like vaporware at this point, but I’m holding out hope. |
