Now that the X-Men animated series is fully released on DVD, Buena Vista has released the complete animated series of Iron Man, also from the mid-90s.  This was a short-lived but good while it lasted animated series.

Of all the cartoons from this time period, this is perhaps the most forgettable.  Chalk it up to the fact that Iron Man is not the most prevalent comic book hero when standing against Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, et al.

With the release of "Iron Man 2" in theaters, it is obvious that Buena Vista timed this release to coincide.

As for the series itself, it is a half-in-half cartoon.  The first half is simply terrible.  The story and animation is horrendous at times.  But then there is the second half of the series that is incredible.  Unlike the other cartoon series, Iron Man consists of many one-off episodes.  While there is a greater plot overall, it is easy to lose sight of this plot.

The set contains the complete animated series, which ran from 1994 to 1996.  There are 26 episodes in total on three discs.

The video quality of this DVD set is on par with the earlier X-Men Animated DVD volumes.  There are some serious interlacing and artifacting problems.  Colors are bold, but some bleeding does occur.  The first half of the series has the most problematic animation sequences.  Random noise seems to permeate the image as well.  This is a big upgrade from the original broadcast quality.  However, with many of these old cartoons playing played on Disney HD stations, I have seen better video quality for these 90s cartoons.

The audio quality is also on par with the other 90s cartoon releases.  The Dolby Stereo 2.0 track is enveloping to a point.  Dialogue is clear and balanced nicely with the music and sound effects.  There are a few instances of audio popping.  Overall the track is solid.

Not surprising, but there are no special features on this DVD set.

Without a complete remaster this is the best the series is going to look and sound.  It is highly recommended for fans and still recommended for those that are interested in animated cartoons of the 90s.
