The firmware upgrade is one of the best things that's ever happened to home theater, and for a lot of people, it's the saving grace of 3D.  Blu-ray players, game consoles and receivers are all receiving firmware updates that allow for HDMI 1.4 compatibility, and Harman Kardon's components are no different.

If you've got an AVR 2600, AVR 3600 or AVR 7550HD, you'll be able to download and install the firmware update this September.  It's a free upgrade, and all you'll have to do is grab the software from Harman Kardon's site, pop it onto a memory stick, and upgrade it using the onscreen instructions.

For those planning to pick up one of the three Harman receivers, you can either grab one now and upgrade in September, or just buy one this fall with the firmware preinstalled.   Harman says that the update will allow for 3-D compatibility with all 3-D capable Blu-ray players, set-top boxes and displays.
