It simply astounds me how some movies get the green light.  This film fails on every level of filmmaking.  It is a poor script to start with.  The filmmakers didn't know what to do with the script.  The actors channeled the most stereotypical romantic comedy spirits.  The biggest problem with the film is that it never had any potential from the moment that the first word was put on paper.

Romantic comedies are always the same, but "Leap Year" is the worst of the worst.  The story fails to grab the audience.  Any resemblance of a plot is poorly acted.  The "story" contains no subplots.  There is no motivation for any sequence.  There is nothing else to say about this film.  It holds no entertainment value.  Those that love romantic comedies will most certainly find this film long, boorish and useless.

Compared to the film the video transfer is a gem.  The photography suffers from some production issues that were perhaps poor decisions.  Production lighting shows up the worst in the transfer, with a diffuse look that makes the image difficult to watch.  The video transfer is filled with blurred shots.  Details and textures remain strong in the remaining sequences.  Fleshtones fluctuate a little over the course of the film.  Edges are crisp with very little evidence of any edge enhancement.  Black levels are solid with only one instance of crushing.  Shadow delineation is not the best but is passable.  Aside from some odd color timing issues form the original source print, the video transfer's colors are lush and stable.  Contrast can be a bit hot at times, blowing out practicals.  This is a solid video transfer.

Once again, as with all the romantic comedies in existence, this is audio track is nothing more than a front heavy mix.  The dialogue is nicely prioritized.  However, it is difficult to understand many of the conversations due to the accents.  No amount of center channel volume control will help solve this problem.  The LFE channel is present in no more than a couple of sequences.  The surround channels are absent for the majority of the film.  They are probably most present during the car crash.  The dynamic range is rather flat.  The audio is perfectly suited for the romantic comedy genre, but that isn't saying much.

The Blu-ray edition of "Leap Year" does not come with any special features other than disc enhancements.  The disc is pcketBLU, socialBLU and BDLive enabled.  There is also a small collection of deleted scenes.

"Leap Year" is a definite skip.  There are numerous other romantic comedies out there that are much more deserving of your time.  Skip it.
