As anyone who's jumped on the web based video bandwagon knows, there are a few things you'll have to give up.  Up until Vudu's HDX debut, video quality was one of those things, but it's only one of the hurdles that digital distribution has to clear.

The Vudu version of 'Avatar' tackles yet another of the major problems with digital delivery.  Unlike the bare bones Blu-ray version, Vudu gives you access to special features.  There's behind the scenes footage, mini-documentaries on the creation of the film, and even insight into the new tools that were used in the creation of 'Avatar.'

Vudu says that there will be no additional charge for the extra content for those who purchase the movie.  It's not clear whether or not the bonus material will be viewable by those who rent the film.

The standard definition copy from Vudu will run $20, and the HD and HDX versions $25.  That's $5 more than the current Amazon sale price for the Blu-ray, but the $5 difference could well be worth it for those looking for high-def extras.
