It’s not often I get really excited about something, but this is insanely cool.  There’s a new program called Winscape that works with an existing television and a Wii remote control to bring your displays to a whole new kind of life.

At first glance, Winscape is nothing more than a screensaver on a pair of plasma screens.  Admittedly, it’s a nice scenic view of the San Francisco bridge, but it’s nothing special.  It gets exciting when you move.   As you move to the left, the image compensates.  As you move up and down, the image compensates.

So what you’ve got is, in essence, a virtual window.  It’s like something out of a science fiction movie.  Tracking technology care of a Wii remote and a Mac program make it seem as if the view is real.  After all, it reacts like real scenery.

Of the different environments available, some of the coolest are the underwater settings.  In one, there’s little movement aside from the gentle bobbing of some seaweed until a lone shark comes right past the screen.  The software and iPhone remote application are available free on RationalCraft.com as well as instructions on how to create the same effect in your own home.
