We’re just a few days away from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show next week and there are already a few very interesting announcements.  The big one from Microsoft has to do with Silverlight, their go-to service for streaming video.

If you’ve used Netflix on your PC you’re probably familiar with Silverlight.  It’s a mandatory install to use the service, and it’s a much touted product of Microsoft’s.  Silverlight was also used to stream coverage of the 2010 Olympics which was met with much praise.

As for the show, Microsoft has announced that they’ll be debuting several products that incorporate Silverlight in as of yet unseen forms.  The company says to expect set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and even TVs with Silverlight built right in.

“Our vision is to bring Silverlight to every screen,” says Microsoft’s Scott Gurthie.  “As we continue to expand the capabilities and resources for Silverlight and IIS Media Services, it’s exciting to see the amazing ways our customers use these technologies to deliver outstanding media experiences for their end users.”
