The Unisen series is a particularly interesting one from Mitsubishi. Each TV in the line is an LED edge lit LCD with subwoofer outs and the ability to act as a center channel. They’ve also got at least 16 speakers on a sound bar set just underneath the screen that are capable of producing sound far better than traditional TV speakers.
It’s a great alternative to a full speaker setup where one wouldn’t be practical otherwise, and integrating the speakers directly into the TV eliminates a lot of sound bar setup. There’s room to upgrade to, since the TV’s speakers can act as a center channel for your surrounds. The lower-end Unisen sets offer 12-bit video processing, a 6-color processor, 4 HDMI inputs and support for Deep Color. The 154 series is the baseline version, and Mitsubishi doesn’t give you much of a choice when it comes to size. It’s only available as a 55” set at $2,499. The 164 line takes things up a bit by adding a variety of screen sizes and built in WiFi. It’s also got Bluetooth A2DP streaming, which is great for smartphone owners. The 164 line caps out at the 55” LT-55164 for $2,699. Lastly, there’s the Diamond 265 series. The 265 ups the ante with a total of 18 speakers and adds 18-bit video processing. It also gives you even more control than the others, allowing ISFccc Advanced Video Adjustments and including a mic for auto sound calibration. If you’re going with the 265 line you can pick up the 46” model for $2,499 or the 55” model for $3,199. |
