The first component is the preamplifier itself, designed for low noise operation.  When dealing with an MC cartridge, you’ll net a 71dB ratio, while the amplifier’s MM section delivers an 84dB signal to noise ratio. It’s got a pair of RCA inputs, a ground connection, and a pair of RCA outputs.

The other component is the power supply.  It’s got a large transformer and filter capacitors, and a voltage regulator designed to eliminate line ripples.
