Media servers are great to have in the home.  You can watch your content from any set in the house and it’s all digital.  There’s no messing about with optical media because it’s all stored centrally.  It’s great when you’re home, but when you’re out and about, you’re without your movies and music.  That’s where the cloud comes into play.

S1Digital and Atonomic Controls have gotten together to create the Mirage Media Server.  It functions like a traditional media server in that it stores media locally, but it also backs up all your media to a private digital locker.

You can then access your media on your phone, laptop, TiVo, game system, or through home control systems.  Whether you’re travelling across the state or across the country, you’ll still be able to grab your video and audio files as long as you’ve got a connection to the internet.

Of course, you can use the server in the home too.  It supports a total of five audio outputs including a 7.1 digital output.  It handles most audio formats (including FLAC) and you can get software to keep your libraries in sync. You can pick up the Mirage Media Server now for $3,995.

Max  - Nice - but expensive for a small benefit     |2010-03-25 23:12:32
At that price it is a little steep to pay that to get a convenience of having
your media available over the web.
So you go on holiday and while on holiday you
feel like watching or listening to something you know you have on your home
server? That's not what you do on holiday - and if you really want to watch
something search download and watch it.
