Unlike the rumored iPhone application, Windows phones are going to be streaming Netflix over 3G.  Windows mobile has been the whipping boy in the phone world recently.  It’s been severely behind on a lot of things.  Android based phones and Apple’s iPhone have taken advantage of the platform’s failure by gaining a lot of ground in the mobile market, but Windows Phone 7 seems to be a full 180.

For starters, Windows Phone 7 runs Netflix beautifully.  The Netflix app was shown off at MIX10 today – in prototype form, admittedly – and navigation looks nice and easy.  Users will be able to go through their queue, recommendations and stream right from the phone.

Of course, this isn’t set for release yet, and there’s still the question of usage rights before anything goes forward.  In a recent survey, iPhone users were asked about their desire to use Netflix on their devices.  The caveat stated in the survey was that they’d only be able to stream Netflix while connected to a WiFi network, but not over 3G. Just what will happen with Netflix and the Windows Phone 7 platform is still up in the air, but it’s looking promising.
