Back before digital video recorders were the standard and long before the general public was comfortable with the letters DVR, there was TiVo.  The company made a name for itself right out of the gate and became the go to product for those looking to get more out of their television.

Those days are gone thanks to the wide availability of DVRs and an increasingly difficult to see TiVo advantage, but the company is hoping to bring people back to their side of the fence with the TiVo Premiere.

The Premiere line is made up of the 320GB Premiere and the 1TB Premiere XL, both of which run the new user interface.  They’re faster than older TiVos and they offer a flash based high definition interface, but little else has changed.

TiVo says that the Premiere offers a one box solution for your viewing needs, but falls short on streaming video, on demand cable selections, and  even the packed in features.  Not to mention, the two best things about the TiVo Premiere – a Wireless  N adapter and a slick QWERTY remote – are sold separately.
