Netflix is notorious for giving away the company’s next move with a survey.  Back before Netflix hit the Xbox 360, there was a survey asking customers if they’d like to see it.  The same happened before the launch of Netflix on the PlayStation 3 and Wii, and it looks like the iPhone is next.

The text of the survey question starts by describing the typical use of the service.  It talks about watching movies and TV shows without commercials and the ability to pause.  It also says that the service would be at no additional cost.  None of that is particularly unexpected, but here’s where it gets interesting.

According to the theoretical situation laid out in the survey, “Whenever you want to instantly watch content on your iPhone, your iPhone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.”  Streaming Netflix video over 3G doesn’t look like it’s happening.  Theories on the reasoning range from licensing loopholes – if a device connects Wi-Fi it’s not really a mobile device – to the bandwidth available on a 3G connection.  Whatever the reason, Netflix users may soon have a new device to watch their movies on.
