A pair of movies comes out this week, one is a horror movie remake directed Michael Eisner’s son and the other by a man that directed one of the most beloved and critically lauded independent movies of all time.  Believe it or not, Eisner’s kid did good.

The Crazies

Breck Eisner, son of Michael Eisner, directs Timothy Olyphant and Rhada Mitchell in this reimagining of a George Romero film. It’s not necessarily a zombie movie, but it’s got zombie movie qualities.  It plays mainly on the idea that when it all hits the fan, every man is out for himself.  It’s concise, it’s stylish, and it’s being praised by the majority of critics.

Cop Out

Remember Clerks?  It was an original and excitingly inventive movie that showcased the brilliant writing of the then unknown filmmaker Kevin Smith.  Mallrats was a fun holdover and Chasing Amy wowed the critics again.  It’s all been downhill from there.  Cop Out is the single worst reviewed movie Smith’s ever made, currently fetching a 16% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  That’s worse than Jersey Girl.  By a lot.
