Atlantic’s new loudspeakers mark the debut of a new way of handling bass.  They’re the first speakers to use the H-PAS bass technology, which means smaller cabinets, smaller drivers, and lower costs. Atlantic’s new loudspeakers rely on a unique cabinet design and a series of passive technologies to achieve their bass performance.

The bass drivers are only 5.25” in diameter, and they’re set in an enclosure of 1.6 cubic feet.  Atlantic boasts bass that extends to 29Hz at sound pressure levels over 107dB.  I personally got a chance to take a listen to Atlantic’s AT-1 loudspeakers at CES and was fairly impressed with the sound.  The audition piece that best showed off the bass was a pipe organ track from Emerson, Lake  & Palmer’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”  Bass reproduction was no problem at all.

The AT-1 speakers also sport a 1-1/8” low-resonance soft dome tweeter.  It’s got a 2kHz crossover frequency, lower than normal for two-way systems.  The cabinet is fairly compact.  It measures 8-7/8” wide, 13-3/4” deep and 41” high, and weighs in at 54lbs. Atlantic’s AT-1 loudspeakers will be available at the end of 2010 at a price of $1,995 a pair.
