Nearly every mainstream television manufacturer has plans to make 3D televisions in the future, and some are promising their dedicated 3D sets as soon as this year.  Samsung’s beaten everyone to the punch though, as they’re the first company to set their manufacturing plant in motion.

Samsung hasn’t yet disclosed the total amount of new sets that they’ll be dishing out.  Estimates put the 3D television market for 2010 at about 2.4 million sets sold, and you can bet that Samsung wants the majority of those sales.

We know that Samsungs new sets will all sport 240Hz refresh rates to ensure a nice smooth picture even while watching in 3D.  Samsung also revealed today that the response time of their TVs would be cut down fairly drastically.  The new sets will respond up to twenty percent more quickly, bringing the stated time down under four milliseconds.

The panels being manufactured will be compatible with both standard LCD and LED backlit LCD televisions in the 40”, 46” and 55” class sizes. They’ll need active shutter glasses, or as they’re now called “3D Active Glasses.”
