It appears that Samsung is the latest manufacturer to join the 3-D game.  They have recently announced their partnership with leading 3-D technology developer, RealD.  RealD uses an enhanced process of multiplexing to deliver a 3-D image, versus the side-by-side image that we all no and hate when viewed with glasses.  RealD technology will be built into Samsung’s next line of 3-D HDTVs.

The industry promises that 3-D is going to be the next frontier in home entertainment.  However, I must point out that most viewers are not keen on wearing glasses, especially uncomfortable ones.  Have you ever found a pair of comfortable 3-D paper glasses?  I think not.  Not to mention, many viewers use the TV in the background, listening and occasionally glancing at the screen.  What is the point of 3-D unless you buckle down directly infront of the TV and never take your eyes off of it?  I guess I am waiting for a device like Edward Nigma’s box that can tap directly into your brainwaves to induced 3-D images.

Nevertheless, it’s nice to see the industry making attempts to push what potentially could be the future of HDTV viewing, unlike the music industry’s lack of support for the potential future of music.  Think SACD and DVD-Audio.
