HDBaseT allows you to stream uncompressed high definition video thoughout your house using only a single CAT5e cable.  Not good enough?  How about if we throw in control commands?  Still not buying it?  Here’s the final offer.  Not only will HDBaseT give you uncompressed HD video and audio streaming throughout your house as well as control functionality, but we’ll throw in Ethernet communication and power as well.

It’s one of those things that just sounds too good to be true, but the HDBaseT alliance assures us that the new technology is on its way.  Valens is the company behind the initiative and LG, Samsung and Sony – three of the biggest names in consumer electronics – have gotten behind the tech.  According to Valens, more big names are joining up in the next few weeks.

There are a lot of technologies vying for the home network market.  MoCA has been making strong moves, and good old fashioned wireless networking looks like it’ll be getting a boost this year as well. Dror Jerushalmi of Valens says that they aware of the competition, and  “are actively working with such leading companies across the value chain to assure broad support and active participation in the newly formed HDBaseT Alliance”
