Vizio's sales numbers have regularly been ahead of the curve due to their well received entry level televisions. Making a low priced television that's still strong in the quality department is something that many companies struggle with and Vizio seems to have down.
Recently though, the company has begun to offer more fully featured sets at prices that put them in the same category as some of the more established television brands. The addition of LED backlights, 120/240Hz refresh rates and selection of larger displays seems to have paid off for Vizio, as they had a tremendous Black Friday.
Vizio sold 280,000 televisions during the week of Black Friday, a forty percent increase over last year. Over 50,000 of those televisions sported a 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate. They also managed to move over 20,000 sets over 50 inches. Vizio states that this is a one thousand percent increase over the past year, which amounts to around 18,000 more 50” sets sold this year than last year.
Soundbars were a fairly popular item this year as well. The 7,000 soundbars sold obviously don't compare to the amount of televisions that moved, but the number certainly speaks to the adoption of the soundbar itself.
As Vizio increases the feature set and build quality of its televisions, as well as the price, sales seem to be increasing. In the third quarter of 2009 Vizio shipped twice as many televisions as Sony, and was ranked the #1 supplier of LCD televisions in the US.
