The CasaTunes XLi and XLe are digital music servers with a fairly low cost and pretty strong capability.  Designed with custom installers and advanced home users in mind, the CasaTunes XL servers are capable of sending individual audio streams to any room in the house. CasaTunes’ XL music servers feature a hardware based multi-zone switch with individual volume levels and the ability to swap zones at will.

The XLi supports up to six zones and five separate streams while the XLe offers twelve zone support – with the possibility of expansion up to forty-eight – and the ability to output nine audio streams.  At the heart of the CasaTunes XL line is an Intel E6300 processor and 2GB of RAM.  A terabyte hard drive is included for the storage of compatible audio files, expandable via an eSata connection.  They operate using Windows 7 Home Premium  and sport a CD/DVD drive as well as four USB connectors for added storage and functionality.

The CasaTunes XL servers can be controlled via a web interface, through an iPhone app, or through an attachable keypad which is available separately.  An RS-232 interface is also available, and a full set of web services is included for customization. Both servers are compatible with MP3, WMA, and AAC formats, both lossy and lossless, and CDs can be ripped to the system in any of these formats.  Both the XLe and XLi sport 7.1 on board HD audio and SPDIF outputs. The CasaTunes XL servers are available now at $1,499 for the XLi and $2,199 for the XLe.
