Maybe you’ve got a slick outdoor setup, a multi room arrangement, or perhaps you just mounted your TV in an incredibly prohibitive place. Regardless of the reason, you need an HDMI extender, and a couple of feet just isn’t gonna do it. Luckily for you, there’s Gefen. With a 330 foot range, Gefen’s new HDMI extender is the lengthiest extender offered by the company. Gefen specializes in connectors and cables, and their new extender shows that. Gefen doesn’t specialize in names though, they just call it what it is, the HDMI v1.3 CAT5 Extra Long Range (ELR) extender. Using a sender module and receiver module, the HDMI v1.3 CAT5 ELR can send an HDMI signal of up to 1080p/60 without signal degradation. It supports deep color, 8.1 audio and both Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio. Ethernet signals can be carried right along with the HDMI, allowing simple integration of networks. Additionally, infrared signals from remotes can be sent along via an IR Blaster, meaning that a remote pointed at the screen will be able to control a device several rooms away, or in a different building entirely. The HDMI v1.3 CAT5 ELR runs $699 and will be shipping this December. |
