Japan’s Flat Panel Display expo again brings us some incredibly forward looking prototype displays.  While these may or may not ever make it to a consumer level, there’s a lot of food for thought when it comes to the new AMOLED displays being shown.

AMOLED technology has a presence in smart phones already, and LG takes it a step up by including AMOLED screens in upcoming laptops in the form of a 15” transparent screen.  The display utilizes transparent cathodes and anodes, while OLEDs emit light to both sides of the screen.  This would appear to let anyone on the other side of the screen get a view of what you’re working on too.  Why anyone would want this is a mystery, but admittedly, it is pretty cool.

Samsung also features AMOLED in their ultra thin laptop hybrids, which feature a 2.7mm thick display which sits separate from the keyboard and mouse.  The Samsung laptops offer 300cd/m2 brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Samsung steps it up a bit for their 30” AMOLED TV, which they claim will eliminate the dizziness from viewing video in 3D.  At a mere 2.5mm thick, Samsung’s TV also features a million-to-one contrast ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate.
