On October 28th, the Flat Panel Display (FPD) International Expo 2009 kicks off in Yokohama, Japan.  AUO will be featuring a few different 3D technologies, the primary among them being glasses free 3D HD viewing.  According to AUO, using higher resolution panels and specific pixel arrangement designs, they’ve created a wider viewing angle for their 3D displays.

A 65” 4K2K display will be featured which uses a 2D/3D switch and is aimed towards advertising purposes.  The switch allows 3D images to be viewed three dimensionally, while still letting the eye see 2D images like text in two dimensions.

Another 65” LED backlit 4K2K monitor shown will serve as an example of ecologically friendly design.  A scant 7.9mm thick and featuring 256 zones for local dimming, the display is said to consume up to 50% less power than standard monitors.  AUO also brags a contrast ratio of over 2,000,000:1.

For those that absolutely need their televisions to fit the source material, AUO will be showing a 58” ultra-wide television.  This LCD features a 2560x1080 resolution, a frame rate of 120Hz and an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An OLED display 14” large will be shown, as well as other OLED technologies.  The 14” display offers a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 16 million colors.
