Western Digital’s newest contribution to the streaming media player market – formerly known as the WD TV-2 – is now available at Best Buy without much hullabaloo.  Sure it’s not an earth shattering product, but for a relatively low price it offers functionality missing on many Blu-ray players, receivers and televisions.  For a scant $119, the WD TV Live Media Player allows the streaming of content from Youtube and Pandora, as well as the viewing of photos on Flickr.

WD’s latest offering also features networking capabilities and streams media in a variety of codecs.  Sadly, the only listed in the specs are AAC, MP3, JPEG and H.264/AVCHD.  The WD TV Live Media Player does offer a 1080p resolution and decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS audio.  Priced at $10 less than the original asking price of the first WD TV, and only $20 more than the current price of the original, this will certainly prove to be a smart upgrade for many consumers.
