In an odd bit of news today it was announced that Pioneer has selected Anchor Bay to provide scaling for their Elite VSX-23TXH and VSX-21TXH as well as the VSX-10109AH-K.  The first Pioneer products to use Anchor Bay scaling technology, this adds some extra appeal to this trio of sub $1,000 Pioneer receivers.

C.H. Chee, VP of Marketing at Anchor Bay was expectedly happy to make the announcement, stating “We are pleased that Pioneer has recognized Anchor Bay's industry leadership as a producer of state of the art video processing semiconductors.”  He went on to say that “[We are] reassured by their confirmation of our ability to meet Pioneer's stringent quality and performance requirements.”

Using Anchor Bay’s proprietary 10-bit Precision Video Scaling engine, the ABT1015 chip should provide the receivers with some very impressive scaling.  The image can be independently scaled horizontally and vertically up to 1080p with full support for HDMI 1.3 and Deep Color.  The odd bit is that these are not new products and this is not an upgrade for newly produced units.  The Anchor Bay ABR1015 chip has been in these receivers all along.
