Novothink is introducing the first Apple certified solar charger for the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The hard shell, named the Solar Surge, slides over the iPod Touch and charges the portable music player by sunlight. The solar panel is installed on the back of the unit and includes a USB port, similar to one found on a digital camera, to charge the iPod Touch or iPhone via a computer or laptop. There is a small, 4-Bar LED indicator on the Surge that shows how much power is left in the charger's internal battery. Novothink's Solar Surge only works on the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 2G. The device is priced at $70 and will be rolling out for the iPod Touch later this month. Any tie-in to compatibility with Apple's possible upcoming announcement of a new iPod is unknown at this time. |
