The latest DVDirect Recorder from Sony is 60% smaller than previous models.  It is able to transfer videos (high- and standard-def) from a camcorder or camera to a DVD without a computer.  The files are transferred at up to 1080i resolution and 5.1 channel sound, and are playable on Blu-Ray players and PS3s.

The new DVDirect includes a 2.7-inch LCD screen for previewing clips and digital photos.  Connections include Digital Video composite video inputs and a USB port.  The recorded DVDs can also be played in most compatible DVD players. The VRD-MC6 will ship in September for a suggested retail price of $229.
