Consumers will soon be able to legally copy their Blu-Ray discs.  Under the label of “managed copies”, consumers can create at least one copy of each Blu-Ray disc they own.  The Advanced Access Content System License Authority (AACSLA) has drafted an agreement with the studios allowing for these managed copies, which the studios can either charge for or allow without a fee.

This agreement will be signed by December 4th of this year.  It will likely take until the first quarter of 2010 to see some Blu-Ray players hitting the market with copy capabilities.  The copy option will purportedly be available on the Blu-Ray menu, and will allow for one or more copies to be made which will be protected with AACS DRM or Microsoft DRM.
