The domestic Chinese market will soon get to choose between Blu-Ray technology and its newest competitor, CBHD.  This new technology is only available within China, and is based off of HD-DVDs.  Chinco and TCL will be among the first producers of this technology, with Warner agreeing to make 100 titles available.

The new optical discs are read using a blue laser, and are structured like a DVD with the audio and video being formatted like the Chinese AVS.  This technology allows Chinese manufacturers to bypass the fees associated with Blu-Ray licensing, and produce the new players and discs at a fraction of the cost.  The player will cost a little under $300, and each disc will cost between $7 and $10.
