The president of the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association), Gary Sharpiro, asserted yesterday his confidence that the nation will be prepared for the DTV switch this coming June in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet. He went into great detail when discussing the initiatives that the CEA and partner businesses have taken in order to ensure that the country will be ready for digital broadcasting.
Speaking directly about converter boxes, Sharpiro was confident that supply would remain steady and that those who still needed them would get them, but he did qualify this by stating that retailers and suppliers make their own independent decisions, and that this is an unprecedented occasion. He also warned that another postponement would be detrimental to the industry, and would negate many of the benefits that the switch promises. |
