A 2007 class action lawsuit against Toshiba has been decided. The settlement requires that Toshiba pay out more than $1 million to about 265,000 persons. The lawsuit claims that Toshiba DLP HDTVs were failing prematurely and requiring the consumer to purchase replacement lamps for the projection system. The replacement lamps were susceptible to the same issue, requiring even more replacement lamps.
The lawsuit finds that Toshiba needs to reimburse the consumers who
bought a lamp that failed before its quoted lifetime. It also requires
that Toshiba extend their replacement lamp warranty from six months to
12 months.
